Its wonderful to have the Woodland Symposium group back with us for the 5th year running. This year we are joined by Noelle Gallagher, Linda Schirmer, Daniel Coleman, Helena Doyle and Gustaf Broms, all making artistic responses to the ongoing restoration of our Sitka Spruce Forest to native woodland.
Please join us at 2pm on September 6th for our open day, to meet with these artists as they share their work as part of this very exciting project. All welcome!
Bearing Witness | Holding Space | Making Injury Visible
is a powerful project exploring the environmental and cultural impact of offshore wind farms on Ireland’s coastal communities. Led by artists Jane Cassidy and Laney Mannion, alongside ecologist Marie Louise Heffernan and curator Alannah Robins, the project centres on the proposed wind farm at Sceirde Rocks, Connemara.Through immersive sound and light installations and participatory workshops the project invites audiences to explore the delicate balance between renewable energy and marine biodiversity. Visitors will interact with a tactile, immersive installation to activate recordings of seabird calls, explore migration paths, and print woodcut stories based on local folklore.
Urgent and thought-provoking, the project celebrates the unique richness of Ireland’s marine ecosystems— true jewels of its biodiversity. At the same time, it critically examines the industrialisation of our seas. Amplifying the voices of coastal communities, it encourages a national conversation about sustainable climate action that protects both ecosystems and cultural heritage.

Delivery (16.41 minutes) a short documentary by Bryan Gerard Duffy about Morocco’s brutal occupation of Western Sahara, the exploitation of its natural resources, and the struggle for Sahrawi freedom.
DESERT PHOSfate (58mins) an experimental documentary film by Sahrawi artist Mohamed Sleiman Labat. It weaves through the story of phosphate, exploring the multi-layered narrations about connections to land, sand particles, plants, human and mineral displacement. The film explores ways of telling about realities, metaphors and poetics in the desert. It highlights connections between ecological justice, colonial practices, environmental violence, traces of anthropocentric mineral extractions, and the loss of indigenous ways of knowing and telling about the world.
Bryan and Mohamed will be artists in residence at Interface in October.
