Residency
We welcome proposals by artists of any nationality, race, ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation. We prioritise proposals which explore intersections between science and art or which respond to the unique environment at the facility. Our fully funded residency programme is highly competitive. If we are unable to accommodate your project, please consider becoming a member of Interface. We are building a warm community of members who can self-realise exhibitions, residencies and project development.
Residencies take place over periods of between two and four weeks. The resident artist has the use of a studio space and accommodation. The place is equipped with a solid fuel stove for heating, a printing press, a bronze foundry, some basic wood working tools, audio & visual equipment. You can read more about our equipment here.
The studio is 20-25km away from the various accommodation options. The artist is responsible for their own travel to, from and around Connemara, and for transportation of their own materials and artwork home. We wish it was otherwise but, with poor public transport options and dangerous roads, a driver’s license is essential. You will need to use a car to travel between the studio space and the accommodation so you may need to hire a car. Access to the studio building is 9-17, Monday to Friday, so it is a good idea to plan your work around this. Most artists use the weekends for research and exploring the area. The region is remote and it rains a lot, these are also things to be considered when planning a residency. The residency is not suitable for children.
We endeavour to support the artists in any way possible and to introduce the artist to the local artistic community through meetings and potential artist’s talks.
This residency is not suitable for children.
