A graduate of the National College of Art & Design, member of Visual Artists Ireland and The International Social Art Forum, Kate has expressed her voice through varied disciplines from sculpture, paint, film and writing. A lifelong environmentalism she has worked on many socially engaged projects advocating the preservation of our natural heritage in particular our freshwater systems.
She uses her art practice is a tool of advocacy. Her drawings and paintings are rooted in empathy and storytelling. She casts an analytical eye upon the social climate, reflecting a spectrum of societal challenges in her artworks. She addresses topics such as, the impacts of housing insecurity on children, the migration of people fleeing conflict, gender violence and the impacts of biodiversity loss.
Her solo show, Keeping Sight of a Fragile Humanity, drew from a degree of personal experience of conflict and a raw expression of emotion which saw one of these works promoted by IHRAF, a New York based human rights arts festival. Her work has been recognised with a New Voices of Ireland award and six of her paintings were selected for The Wartime Archive exhibition.
In her current body of work, titled Stance, she reflects on the power of social solidarity. She reinforces the work with the inclusion of an audio element of female voices to heighten the mood of solidarity. Share:
