Geraldine O Brien

Geraldine O Brien’s work is an exploration which combines both the use of abstract composition and colour intuitively. The compositions emerge both in complex and simple formations at different times; some develop in bold configurations of vivid colours, whilst others are soft, delicate atmospheric compositions alluding to states of tranquillity. She is also inspired to create spatial compositions which are 'impossible' – structures that start off by appearing 3-dimensional turn into 2 dimensional illusions. By working intuitively, recurring motifs, which emerge as bars (stripes), gates, doors and windows, allude to a paradox of emotional states of beauty, imprisonment and constriction.
