Fiona Cawley was born in Co. Sligo, she grew up in Ballina Co. Mayo and now lives in Kinvara Co. Galway. In 2015 she graduated with a BA Art and Design Degree from ATU Galway. As a landscape and figurative painter, Fiona Cawley’s work evolves organically, starting with spontaneous abstract depictions and guided by the paint itself. She uses her imagination to create emotional responses to her surroundings, often depicting imagined scenes with motifs like lone buildings, figures, and animals from memory.
Fiona’s art explores themes of rural isolation and the impact of climate change on the landscape. She focuses on the physicality of paint, applying it in varied textures and expressive brushstrokes, using favorite colour palettes. By emphasizing composition and formal elements she aims to break up the canvas and create dynamic, textured pieces.
Through my paintings, I seek to evoke a connection to the natural world and the inner landscapes of the mind, inviting viewers to experience the beauty, isolation, and transformative power of nature.
