Blawnin Clancy

Born in New York and raised between Ireland and the US, Blawnin Clancy is a visual artist based in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. Her work explores thresholds between the seen and unseen, drawing on experiences of walking, swimming and snorkelling along coastlines. Informed by nature writing, folklore, archaeology and social history, her layered paintings on birch ply reflect the energies and histories embedded in land and sea.

Clancy studied at Crawford College of Art, Cork, and holds an Honours Degree in Craft Design from NCAD, Dublin. She has undertaken residencies in Ireland and internationally, including the Heinrich Böll Cottage (Achill), Cill Rialaig Project (Kerry), Tyrone Guthrie Centre (Monaghan), Hvítahús and Hafnarborg AIR (Iceland), Joya Arte + Ecologia (Spain), and the Ayatana Artist Research Programme (Canada). Since 2001, she has exhibited widely, recently at the 194th RHA Annual Exhibition in Dublin (2024). Her work has been supported by the Arts Council’s Agility Awards, the Lismore Castle Arts Stable Yard Studio Award and the ArtLinks Bursary for Professional Development Alongside her practice, she teaches in further education.
