Maries Diez is an artist based in Connemara. She was reared in rural Spain and obtained her BA in Fine Art with first class Honours from the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, where she also completed a Residency Program. She was long listed for the RDS Visual Arts Award in 2017.
Maries graduated with a Masters of Social Practice and the Creative Environment in 2019 from Limerick School of Art and Design and she was awarded an Artist’s Bursary by Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture.
With a previous background in Geography, her research has centred on landscape identity. Her painting style is intuitive and process orientated. She uses mixed media to convey an amalgam of emotions and experiences. Her work has been selected for many exhibitions in Ireland, including the Platform Arts in Belfast.
