Laney Mannion

Laney Mannion is a Multidisciplinary Artist from Roundstone in Connemara. She employs ethnographic techniques in her work and research around rural Connemara life. Graduating with a BA Fine Art in 2018 from CCAM, ATU Galway (formerly GMIT), she went on to complete a master’s in Social Practice and the Creative Environment from LSAD Limerick in 2019. After a decade away, she moved home to rural Ireland, gaining insight as both an outsider and insider in her community.

Working across printmaking, sound, and sculpture, and poetry her practice draws on ethnographic processes to document the linguistic nuance, humour, and everyday beauty of the people and landscape of her home in Connemara. Rooted in a deep love for place its communities, stories, folklore, myth, and moments of quiet magic, she explores how culture takes shape through land, frequency, and embodied experience.

Her work  begins with listening: to voices, to weather, to memory. Tracing ecological narratives and the subtle communication between Connemara communities and their environment, creating multi-sensory pieces that hold both the intimacy of personal history and the broader rhythms of community evolution. Through layered materials and soundscapes, she creates encounters that honour Connemara’s living heritage while imagining new ways of sensing and understanding the world. She does this with a deep love of place, of home, of people and the landscape.
