Pauline Garavan is a painter and sculptor based in Westport, Co Mayo. Through observation and enquiry her work captures images of the natural environment, and more recently, has engaged with the unfolding tragedy of climate breakdown and habitat loss. Her work has been supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, and by Mayo Arts Service. She was awarded a one-month artist residency in Krems an Der Donau, Austria, culminating in a solo show as part of the Culture Awards of the State of Lower Austria 2021, at the NÖ DOK, Documentation Centre for Modern Art Lower Austria, St Pölten. She has shown her work widely in Ireland, including solo exhibitions with Custom House Studios + Gallery, Westport; The Dock, Carrick-on-Shannon; Íontas Arts Centre, Co Monaghan. Her sculptural work Shackleton’s Endurance is an exploration of the famous Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton who was born near Athy. It was exhibited at Athy Library as part of Co Kildare’s centenary celebrations. The work is now part of the permanent collection of The Shackleton Museum. Her work has been shown in selected and curated shows throughout Ireland, and been exhibited internationally in London, Philadelphia, Beijing, and St Pölten, Austria.
She has a degree in Art and Design from ATU Mayo and in Fine Art from ATU Sligo. Her work is held in public and private collections in Ireland, Britain, France, and the United States. She is represented by The Trinity Gallery, Dublin.
