My practice evolves out of conscious engagement with the land. Journeys, often local and on foot, are mirrored in the journeys undertaken by the objects that make their way into my practice. Just as I am altered by my journeys, similarly the objects experience a form of transmutation in theirs. A fascination with the voyages undertaken by these neglected objects from their origin, production, disposal or loss, to retrieval and reimagined form is a catalyst in my creative process. The unknown histories of these objects deepens my fascination with them.
Consideration of connection versus separation and with boundaries, real or imagined, within the land informs the dialogue between space and a point where different surfaces meet in my work. A cycle of deconstructing and reconstructing informs this dialogue and is integral to my process.
Alongside this, a contemplation of the topology of land and time deeply influences the discussion between myself and the material, working with the object or surface to acknowledge its journey and create future incarnations.
