Sankey’s practice reflects the artist’s disquiet about the great over-reach of humanity on the planet. Her work explores the agency of matter and embodied ways of multi-species thinking about how we inhabit the Earth. With creations that navigate issues of dis-ease, disturbance and repair, she explores dependencies both human and trans-species, scrutinizing the experience of entanglement with the world through a sculptural drama of mutation and agency. An Irish/settler-Australian artist who studied in Paris under Hélène Cixous she has been based in Ireland since 1997. Katherine has won many awards, has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally and collaborates within the visual arts, music, participatory arts, dance and theatre.
