I am an artist working with painting, charcoal, found materials, sound and installation, to create sublime and haunting imaginings of the natural world. My semi
abstract compositions are built up slowly, gradually, layer by layer, creating a sense of glowing light in expansive spaces. I work with nature but subtly alter it; shifting
colours, distorting sounds and misplacing objects to hint at the otherworldly. My painting work involves simple layering of colour. I work mostly with oils, carefully
applying many thin layers of paint over a prolonged period of time. I allow layers to dry before mixing a new colour to thinly lay on top, altering the composition. The
finished works are delicate, soft and considered. The compositions are references to expansive spaces, as well as inward contemplation. I am interested in world
building and this is a major motivation behind my installations and exhibitions. I also work with found objects and charcoal; exhibiting found pieces of wood before
burning them and transforming them into charcoal works. My charcoal works are created on linen stretchers, and can be read as paintings. They have many similarities
to the oil painting work, utilising the same format, and depicting natural light through a soft application and layering of material. The compositions allude to the
infinite, yet remain introspective and meditative, both soothing and haunting.
I was born in 1993 in Galway, Ireland. I completed a BA in Painting at the Centre for Creative Arts and Media Galway, Ireland in 2014, graduating with a first-class
honours degree, and an MA in Contemporary Art at KMD Bergen, Norway in June 2022. In 2022 I was the recipient of a BKH student art prize and Hordaland
Kunstsenter’s MA solo exhibition. I have since had a solo exhibition at Studio K Kverneland, and participated in this year’s Unge Inviterte exhibition at LNM Galleri
Oslo. I now live and work in Bergen, Norway
